Earth Day 2007
|
Although more than half of the U.S. workforce lives within 5 miles of their place of work, lack of knowledge and incentives prevent many from trying bike commuting. Join La Montanita Co-op and Bike Albuquerque as we explore biking as a way to travel, to exercise and achieve one's ideal weight while having fun. All ages are invited to participate as we learn cycling safety, mechanics and reflective helmet decoration. Come see a fashion show and join our rides.
We have a full and exciting line-up:
- 10 AM to 2 PM: youth rodeo & bike helmet art. Participants get to decorate a helmet with reflective shapes and tape and take it home
- 11 AM Senior Cycle Group rides Nob Hill
- 11:30 Fix a Flat Clinic
- 12 PM Community ride in Nob Hill area
- 12:30 Interactive Street Smarts Clinic

Cycle for Heart - Chris Figureida
|
Chris Figureida, a cyclist from Ventura, California, is biking coast-to-coast (3600 miles - the long way) in support of the American Heart Association.
This isn't just a bike ride, though.Ý Chris is stopping in at several cities - including Albuquerque - to speak with elementary school students about nutrition and an active lifestyle.Ý This ride -ÝCycle for Heart - is a really noble effort to battle the obesity problems plaguing America's youth.
But here's where you come in.Ý Chris's PR manager is arranging for as much press coverage as he can get.Ý He's requested that we provide as many riders as we can by his side to make him look all good 'n' pretty for the cameras.
This is going to be a lot of fun!Ý Chris will be hitting I-40's mile marker 149 at around 3pm on the 25th.Ý From there, we'll ride with him ten miles to his stopping point, Civic Plaza (4th and Marquette).
We've got a great chance to show the couch potatoes watching their TVs at home what a great bike culture we've got here in Albuquerque.Ý Let's do this!
