Coming Soon – A Bike Bridge across the Rio Grande at I-40!

BikeABQ is pleased to announce some great developments in a major project that will go a long way in connecting the bicycle networks in Albuquerque.

It’s been in the works for years, but the $7 million bridge across the Rio Grande had been delayed due to lack of funds.  Now, thanks to the federal stimulus package, this shovel-ready project is set to begin construction in June!  The beautiful bridge, with stylish arch trusses, will span the river alongside I-40, and will become an Albuquerque landmark.

The bridge will feature an asphalt deck for smooth riding, and low-level lighting to improve visibility without causing glare.  It will drop from the bluffs on the west side to the levee on the east bank, and then double back to connect to the Bosque trail.  On the west side, a new path will run atop a box culvert along I-40 and end the Wal-Mart parking lot, which connects a number of other bike paths and lanes.
